Helio

Terms of Use and Privacy Policy · Effective 13 August 2026

Helio is an expense tracker for iPhone. It records what you spend, sorts it into categories you create, and lets you enter an expense by typing, by speaking, by photographing a receipt, or by asking an assistant in a chat. This page is both the Terms of Use the app links to and the Privacy Policy that describes what the app does with your data.

Terms of Use

Using the app

You may use Helio for your own personal expense tracking. You need an account to use it, and you sign in with Google or with Apple; the app has no password of its own. You are responsible for what you put into it and for keeping access to the account you signed in with.

What the app is not

Helio is a record-keeping tool. It is not accounting software, it does not give financial, investment or tax advice, and nothing it shows is a professional opinion. The assistant is a language model: it can misread a receipt, mishear a word, and get an amount or a date wrong. Check what it enters before you rely on it.

Availability and changes

The app is provided as it is, without a guarantee that it will be available, uninterrupted, or free of defects. Features may change or be removed. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using the app, including decisions made on the basis of what it recorded.

Ending it

You can delete your account from inside the app, in Settings. Deleting it removes your expenses, your categories, and the account itself. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Privacy Policy

The short version

What is collected, and why

DataWhere it comes fromWhy
E-mail address, nameGoogle or Apple, when you sign inTo have an account and to tell your data apart from anyone else's
Account identifierCreated at sign-inEvery record you save is stored against it
Expenses — amount, title, date, categoryYou, by typing, speaking, scanning or askingThis is what the app is for
Chat messagesYou, in the assistantTo answer you and to create the expenses you ask for
Receipt photographsYour camera or photo library, when you scan a receiptTo read the amounts off the receipt
Voice recordingsYour microphone, when you dictateTo turn speech into an expense

All of it serves the app's own functionality. None of it is used for advertising, for profiling, or for anything a reasonable person would not expect from an expense tracker. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your e-mail address, Helio only ever sees the relay address Apple gives it.

Where it is kept

Your account is held in Firebase Authentication and your expenses and categories in Cloud Firestore, both operated by Google as our processor. Access rules on that database are set so that a signed-in account can read and write its own records and no one else's. The app keeps nothing on the device beyond what iOS caches for it; a receipt photograph and a voice recording live in a temporary file only long enough to be sent, and are then removed.

The one third party the app sends your content to

The assistant, the receipt scanner and the voice entry are built on OpenAI's API. When you use any of them, the app sends the content of that request — your message, the photograph, the recording, and the expense data needed to answer — to our own server, which forwards it to OpenAI using our server's key. The device never holds that key. The request to OpenAI carries nothing that identifies you: no name, no e-mail address, no account identifier.

OpenAI processes that content to produce the answer, and retains it for a limited period for abuse monitoring under the terms of its API. It is not used to train models. OpenAI's own privacy terms are at openai.com/policies.

What is not collected

No advertising identifier, no location, no contacts, no health data, no device fingerprint, no analytics events, and no crash-reporting service. The app links no advertising or analytics SDK at all.

How long it is kept

Your expenses and categories stay until you delete them or delete your account. Deleting your account in Settings removes the records and the account together, permanently.

Your rights

You can see everything the app holds about you inside the app itself, correct any of it by editing it, and erase all of it by deleting your account. If you are in the EU or the UK you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, and to complain to your data protection authority. To ask for anything that the app itself cannot do, write to the address below.

Children

Helio is not directed at children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them.

Changes to this page

If what the app collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. The version in force is the one published here.
